PFB is an embarrassing condition that’s hard to treat. Pseudofolliculitis Barbae (PFB) is an irritating skin condition most common in Fitzpatrick skin types IV through VI. Typically caused by shaving, patients with PFB suffer from ingrown hairs and bumps on the face, neck, and other areas of the body. PFB can also cause significant emotional and psychological distress and impact self-esteem and quality of life. In just one study, 60% of PFB patients said their condition had a moderate to severe impact on their self-esteem. Conventional hair removal methods, like electrolysis and depilatories, often don’t address PFB or can make the symptoms worse. Laser hair removal, however, has been shown to be the most effective treatment for PFB.
